Create a ringtone for their iPhone 3G
Musician forces, the first thing I tested on my iPhone is the creation of custom ringtones. Unfortunately, we can not directly integrate an mp3 file as a ringtone on his iPhone, so I had to look a bit and today I am telling you the fruit of my research.
note: for this tutorial, you only need iTunes and software MakeiPhoneRingtone . Choose a music
Whatever the method chosen, it should first create an mp3 file of a maximum of 40 seconds.
You can use open source software like Audacity (to make a more accurate selection or add fades) or straight into iTunes, we'll use for this tutorial.
- right click (control click) on the song mp3
- selected from the dropdown information
- choose the options tab
- box and select the start and end time (<= 40 secondes !)
Now your mp3 extract is now ready.
Convert to AAC with iTunes
must then convert the song to AAC: right click (control click) Convert Selection to AAC (do not worry, your original mp3 will not be affected).
note: if the option is not available, then we need to go change the preferences in iTunes Advanced menu > import , change the mode of import.
The new converted song appear in the iTunes library with the selected time. Right click (control click) on this piece and choose Show in Finder
Conversion with software MakeiPhoneRingtone
From the window that opens, drag the newly created file on the software icon MakeiPhoneRingtone.
And now, your new ringtone is automatically installed in the iTunes ringtones. It'll just sync your iPhone.
alternative method with GarageBand
Finally, I heard another method proposed by GarageBand 4.1.1 which has a menu directly to the iTunes ringtones. As I do not have that version of GarageBand, I could not test but I think it is enough to create a piece of less than 40 seconds and send it to iTunes via the Share menu.
