Rhys concert Chatham Modern Art Museum of the City of Paris this Thursday, January 13 (2-shows the same program to 19h and 20h, free entrance) around the Basquiat exhibition (until 30 January). Rhys Chatham [ www.myspace.com / rhyschatham ], composer, guitarist and trumpeter born in Manhattan, lives in Paris. Since its inception, it alters the DNA of rock by combining the harmonic triumphant minimalism of the 60s with raw fury of the Ramones - the complex textures of the musical avant-garde colliding head-on Energy visceral electric guitars of punk rock. Alongside these works, Chatham works since 1982 with various configurations of brass. Since 2009, he developed a fresh approach to the trumpet, it works both within protean improvisation that sets in collaborations with visual artists, which lead to genuine ; ritables multimedia shows. As part of the exhibition Basquiat (whom he had worked in New York during the 80s) Rhys Chatham will offer a sample of this new approach, based on the meeting of extended playing techniques inherited from the glories of free jazz (Don Cherry, Bill Dixon, Jac Berrocal ...) as well that the great names of the current minimalism (Tony Conrad, Jon Hassell, La Monte Young ...) and altered live on what comes out of his flag firmly effects pedals and electronic devices.

Tuesday January 18 opening of the exhibition "Identities" by El Colectivo to Argentina's House of the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris. The House of Argentina is pleased to once again host El Colectivo and eight international artists invited to gather around the theme of identity in its multiple expressions. El Colectivo group presents its new exhibition on his land in Paris, the Maison de Argentina, organized by the theme of "Identity", in plural: geographic, social, sexual, religious, artistic, double, triple world, Mars, without, anti, fantasy ... each with its interpretation of "identity". Each artist has a space of 1 meter. Responded to the call of El Colectivo 29 artists, most Argentines, almost all with French nationality, many sharing their lives between Buenos Aires and Paris, one of them based in New York, another born in Spain, a third of nationality Italian but also French, a Franco-German, a Dutch ... And for this occasion, because of the theme, joined the group of color Argentine El Colectivo 8 other artists: an Iranian woman, one Chinese, one Japanese, a Chilean born in Neuilly, a Franco-Lebanese one Algerian, one Dutch, and finally, a Togo-Benin-Orleans. All their biographies begin with the traditional "lives and works in Paris." Painter, sculptor, photographer or installer here expresses his concept, his feelings, his claim or his indifference concerning the question of identity. Reflecting the spirit of notorious El Colectivo: can not assign a particular trend nor refer to any approach or common style. So far El Colectivo have not laid a manifesto, the variety of types of artists is proportional to their identities. At El Colectivo the artist is abstract, figurative, minimal, kinetic, classical, baroque, postmodern or unclassifiable. The identity of the group is certainly pluralism. Originally from Argentina and elsewhere, it always returns to his home in the workshop for new adventures.
